Shreveport Maternity Photographer | Nancy's Maternity Session | Leslie Whitaker Photography, Shreveport Louisiana

Shreveport, Louisiana Maternity Photographer

I’ve been thinking about upping my maternity game for a while. I want to be different, high fashion and I always love a beautiful image. Every one does the outdoor maternity images, but if you know me I love to add a little sexy to my image. I think that pregnancy is beautiful at all points, and especially once the belly is nice and round. I love helping Mama’s feel beautiful and I love when you see that light bulb moment and they believe they are as beautiful as they feel.

Nancy was nervous, but she was open to whatever I had in mind. I could tell at some points that she wasn’t sure about different things, but once we sat down to look at her gallery I saw her light up. She loved every single image, and I did too!

Her galley is exactly what I had in mind and I’m so glad she was my first model.

Maternity photographs are some times skipped over for first time moms, but I really think they are important. You're already so overwhelmed with all the new, all of the things you're not sure about, a Maternity Session can really help you slow down and enjoy the last little bit of your pregnancy.

Shreveport Milestone Photographer | Leslie Whitaker Photography | McKinley Six Month Milestone Session

I’ve been photographing McKinley since she was in her Mama’s belly. Mama was a referral from another photographer friend who was moving away. :)

Mama always has the most adorable outfits, and she always starts planning months in advance. I’m already looking forward to her 9 month session, it will be Mardi Gras in Louisiana 😁😁😁.

We ended up having to postpone her session just a little because a sibling was ill and I always want to protect myself for all of my clients. I spend a lot of time making sure all of my props and fabrics and sanitized before and after sessions, and I even was everything with lysol laundry additive. I want to make sure to protect all of my clients, especially the littlest ones, as much as I am able to.

Milestone photo sessions are so much fun because 9 times out of 10 I catch a new ‘milestone’ like rolling over, blowing bubbles or even craaling for the first time. It's always so exciting when I do.

Even if you miss the 3,6,9 marks you can always take milestone photos at any time. Don't get caught up in the months, 4 and 5 months are still special!

Check out the final photos from McKinley's 6 month milestone photo session in my Shreveport photo studio. I love her entire gallery.

Shreveport NewbornPhotographer| Ellisyn's Newborn Session, by Shreveport Newborn Photographer Leslie Whitaker

Sometimes you have to work for sibling poses, and that’s ok! When it comes to siblings, you’re trying to document their personality and their feelings toward the new baby too. No matter how much I try to prepare parents for the ‘fun part’ of including young siblings, they always get flustered. I just remind them that the more we show our aggravation, the less sister is going to give us. So, we go with what sister wants to do. Sometimes we bribe with gummies, and sometimes sister tries to feed the baby gummies. It’s whatever. :) We still get adorable photos, it always works out! :)

Ellie was such a treat. A little chunky too! She gave me the best faces and even gave me some eye contact too! Awake baby doesn’t = bad newborn photos. I love a mix of both!

Kayla and Rob were also so adorable during family photo time, and are so sweet together.

What made you choose Leslie Whitaker for your Newborn session?

Leslie was mentioned in a "Shreveport/Bossier Moms" FB page when I was searching for maternity photographers. After looking at her website and seeing that she offered a package for both maternity and newborn photos, I was excited to work with her. I loved all the lighting and colors she used for sessions, and I appreciated the fact that I didn't have to worry about hair or makeup, because I'm completely inept at both.

  • *

What were you nervous about going into your session?

I was most nervous about Ellie being a newborn and unpredictable :) I was really hoping she wouldn't cry the whole time or have any poop explosions during the shoot.

  • *

What was your favorite part of your session experience?

How calm it was. And getting hair and makeup done. After 4 weeks of not sleeping, and not wearing anything other than pajamas, it was so nice to feel pampered and to look like I slept more than 1 hour. I also loved how gentle Leslie was with Ellie and that she really took her time getting the photos we wanted.

  • *

How do you feel now that you have completed your session and received your images?

Obsessed! :) I'm sending a request to purchase more because I couldn't just pick 10. They're all so great and really captured Ellie's personality.

  • *

Would you recommend Leslie to other ladies looking to book a newborn session? Why?

110% - you're a miracle worker behind the camera and a baby whisperer. You make everything seem and feel effortless. Thank you

Blake’s Hot Air Balloon Cake Smash | Shreveport Cake Smash Photographer | Leslie Whitaker Photography

Blake has been coming to see me since she was in her Mama’s belly! I’ve gotten to watch her grow and her whole year of photos were so much fun. For her birthday Mama and I threw around a lot of ideas and both fell in love with a hot air balloon theme, pastel style. Mama ordered the most beautiful outfit and I handled the rest. Everything turned out so pretty, just like little Blake.

I love styling cake smashes for my babies, and their Mamas too. I make all of my own balloon garlands, and do my best to design the entire set myself. I want every single cake smash session that I do to be unique, just like your baby.

If you're looking for a cake smash photographer in Shreveport I hope you’ll consider me. My studio is in downtown Shreveport in The Petroleum building. It's fully stocked with thousands of props to help make your session exactly what you’ve imagined. Reach out to me around 9 months old to make sure we can get you on the schedule.

Ravaan's Newborn Experience - Leslie Whitaker, Shreveport Photographer - Shreveport Newborn Photographer -

I loved Ravaan's sweet Mama. She was so excited for her first baby, and couldn’t wait for his photos to be ready. She was so proud to be his Mama. She wanted greens, blues and neutrals for his session and I think he looks so perfect with all the colors.

Mama picked this white gown from my client closet for her family photos. She just glows in it too. I do my best to provide options for my mom’s to wear so that they aren’t overwhelmed, especially first time moms. Those first few weeks are such a blur and you don’t want to focus on anything but baby. You certainly don’t need to worry about what you’ll wear for photos.

Newborn Shreveport

Dad got to relax while I took baby’s first photos and Mama got her her hair and makeup done. Refreshments were on hand in case they needed a snack and most parent fall asleep from all the white noise I play, one dad recently said I have surround sound lol.

I’d love to be your newborn photographer too. All of my staff wears mask to ensure we're providing an environment that is as sanitary as possible. We sanitize all surfaces between each session date and all fabrics and outfits are sanitized with lysol laundry additive too. I do my best to make sure my studio is a safe place for all of my clients.

Let me take care of the details for your newborn photos. Relax. Show up and I’ll handle every little detail.

Riaan's Newborn Experience

Mama wanted greys, white and blues. Totally my jam! I love simple portraits of baby on a white background. Baby just pops off the photographs and you notice allllll the details.

I loved working with The Patel family. Dad looked so sharp in his white t, dark jeans and dress shoes. Of course brother was matching and Mama looked so stinking pretty in yellow. I wasn’t sure about the yellow at first, but she rocked it!!!

Rican was super sweet during his part, which is basically all of it. 🤣 He preferred being wrapped, but we worked out the nakey poses too. I bribed Bubba with fruit snacks, I make sure to stay stocked up on those things! Did you know I have a stocked fridge and snack pantry on hand? Water, sodas, juice, chips, cookies, fruits snacks… all the things. I even bring breakfast cakes or Donuts the morning of your session. You won’t even need to plan breakfast! Just show up with the family, and I’ve got the rest. Even books and toys for siblings.

If you’re looking for a belly to baby photographer on Shreveport, I’d love to chat with you. I only accept 5 newborns a month so that I can give each family the attention it deserves. So try to reach out early in your pregnancy so we can get to planning.

Amilia. I just love the spelling of her name. Such a perfect name for a beautiful baby. She was so sweet for me too.

Amilia's Mama brought her to see me at my downtown Photography studio in Shreveport. I had everything on hand for her, and Mama didn't have to stress at all.

Babies are such a joy to work with and I love curating the looks for their galleries. ;)

Katie's Maternity Session Experience - Leslie Whitaker, Maternity Photographer - Shreveport Maternity Photographer

I met Katie a few years ago, through a mutual friend. She’s a teacher in Shreveport, she is a Mama to exchange students and a wife to her adorable husband Seth. She’s seriously the cutest thing ever, and now she’s a Mama to a perfect little girl. We got together in February, before both our babies were born, for her maternity photos in Shreveport. Britt did her hair and makeup and we both struggled to breathe, both hugely pregnant. I LOVE maternity photos in my studio. The light is gorgeous in there! Check out the gorgeous Katie, she’s beautiful pregnant. :)

Dana's Bridal Session - 601 Spring Street - Shreveport Wedding Photographer

Dana and have been friends for years. We met when she booked a boudoir session for her then boyfriend, now husband, Michael. She was late, just like I always am, and we clicked instantly. We both have more babies now (well, she’s had her first one), we’re older and I think we’ve grown into the people we are supposed to be. We’re both pursuing what we love, and we get to do it as our jobs together too!

Dana was a beautiful bride. Check out the photos we did at 601 Spring Street a few weeks before her wedding.

Mommy and Me - Britney, Eli +Beaux - Shreveport Motherhood Photographer - Leslie Whitaker Photography

Mommin’ is hard, a lot of the time. We lay down at night and think about all the things that we didn’t finish, didn’t do right or certainly could have done better. The laundry is never completely done, and most of the time their are dishes in the sink ( at least at my house). Regardless of all of the shortcomings we think we have, our babies don’t see any of that. Give yourself some grace, take photos with your babies. It won’t be this way for long.

Let's get fancy! - Shreveport Maternity Photographer - Leslie Whitaker Photography -

Maria wanted to focus on herself for this maternity session. Her second baby, and Mama wanted to be pampered. She deserved it! Mama brought her own gowns for her session, and I am obsessed with them.

The white gown is actually a wedding gown, and I think I need one or two in my client closet. Then we went a little ‘Mardi Gras’ with the purple gown, and it fit perfectly.

Maria’s hair and makeup is by ‘Beauty by Britney’. Britney is one of my on staff artist, and she rocked this session. :)

Britney's Studio Maternity Session - Shreveport Maternity Photographer - Leslie Whitaker Photography

I am having my fourth baby. I know the struggles that most women have when their pregnant, you know.. the ones where you just do not feel beautiful. Most of the time you feel swollen or nauseated, overly tired and completely unprepared. Sure, you forget most of the bad stuff once your sweet baby arrives, but those feelings still happened. Neglecting to have beautiful maternity photos taken can be a huge regret. Maybe you don’t do it because you think you won’t like the outcome. I challenge you to do it anyway!

Britney is my makeup artist and she gets to work with my maternity clients, new mom’s and boudoir clients. She is SO good at her job, and I love working with her. She had some ideas for her maternity photos, and I am SO glad she picked me to be her maternity photographer. :)

The Real Fear of Raising a Child of Color // Ashley + Ashton // Leslie Whitaker Photography

I’ve been taking photos of Ashley and Ashton for a little over a year now. She and Ashton came by recently for motherhood photos. The photos are beautiful, but most importantly I hope you’ll take the time to read her words below.

Please tell me about your childhood. Where did you grow up, do you have siblings, etc?

I grew up in the small town of Grand Cane, Louisiana; in a neighborhood referred to as Ranchland Acres (predominantly white). I was the only child for 14 years until my younger brother was born.

As a child: Do you remember your parents ever talking to you about race?

On a few occasions my parents told me stories of some of our older neighbors and how they were labeled racist. I remember my dad having an encounter with one neighbor in particular. Firewood fell off my dad’s trailer in the ditch, in front of the neighbors home. The neighbor was outside, and as my father was turning onto the next street the neighbor literally flagged him down to come back and remove a couple pieces of firewood from the ditch in front of his home.

Please tell me about a time you feel you judged based on the color of your skin. This could be at any point in your life, or something more current.

Working in retail I’ve witnessed first hand experience. One time in particular, myself and another employee were referred to as the colored girl/woman in reference to a mistake that was made.

During your pregnancy with Ashton, do you ever remember having fears in relation to racism?

Yes, after all of the incidents related to officers killing African American men and women and getting away with it. I myself have only had a few encounters with law enforcement during traffic stops . When I found out I was having a son I feared that one day he would miss an opportunity based off the color of his skin. I then knew i would choose a name for him that if he filled out a job application they wouldn’t automatically assume he was a person of color.

People are talking more openly now ( in the past few months) about race and their understanding ( or lack of) how their actions make others feel. What fears do you have, in relation to racism, for Ashton?

I fear that one day he will be wrongful accused or even killed based off the color of his skin. I refuse to teach him to dislike or judge anyone based on how they look different from him.

Like all mothers do, I'm sure you sit up thinking at night about the things you hope for your children. What hopes and dreams do you have for Ashton?

I have no doubt that he will encounter racism, but my hope for Ashton is that he can grow up in this cruel world and be any and everything he wants to be.

I have three children of my own. Landry is 6, Cadiana is 5 and Cameron is 1. I can honestly say that when naming my children I never worried about them being discriminated against based on their name, I’ve never worried about them be wrongly accused because of the color of their skin and I’ve never worried about any of them being passed over for a job just because of the color skin they were born with.

Racism is real. All mothers worry about their children, but NO MOTHER should have to worry about their child’s safety because they weren’t born white. I hope that when you read Ashley’s words you take the time to look inside your heart. I hope that you’ll take the time for self reflection and you’ll move forward actively thinking about how you act towards all people, and you’ll change if need to.

Ashton is a beautiful baby. Ashton deserves all the things that my children deserve. Ashley is a wonderful mother. Ashley deserves to raise her child in a world that treats both her and her child with love, respect and forward thinking. It’s 2020, let’s do better.

Hayley, Eden + JJ. A Breastfeeding Session by Leslie Whitaker

Hayley has done a few breastfeeding sessions with me. The first when Eden was turning one, the second shortly after JJ was born and now her third to celebrate one year of breastfeeding JJ.

Check out my favorites from each of her sessions, and read about her experiences too.

  • Why did you choose to breastfeed your children?

The semi funny answer? I’m lazy. I didn’t want to wash bottles or wake up in the middle of the night to boil water especially when I could just lift my shirt up! The real answer? I love getting to share something special with my child knowing that it’s time that no one else can replicate.

  • How long did you breastfeed Eden, and how long have you been breastfeeding JJ?

I breastfed Eden until she was 15 months old which included pumping at work every day for about 8 months. I have been breastfeeding JJ for 12 months so far! I also had to pump for about 8 months at work but he wouldn’t take bottles so I donated a good bit of that milk.

  • Have you encountered any setbacks or issues on your breastfeeding journey?

I have been so blessed in not having any major setbacks during breastfeeding. My children did have reflux as infants so it was frustrating in the newborn stage that my milk flowed too quickly that it would prompt spit up.

  • Have you experienced any negative feedback when breastfeeding in public?

I am so happy that no one has ever made a comment to me about feeding my children but there definitely is an obvious reaction to feeding without a cover. JJ HATES covers of any type and if I ever tried to cover him, he would proudly show the goods to the public! It’s almost like he was telling people, “If you’re gonna stare, take a good look!”

  • Please leave a little encouragement for other mothers who are breastfeeding, those that aren't, or those that are struggling with their choice to breastfeed or not.

My encouragement for other mothers would be... do what feels right for you! Years from now you won’t revel in the fact that you breastfed or formula fed. You’ll remember what it took to keep your baby healthy! Was it the breast massages, the hours of pumping, the number of bottles you made? No... all of that boils down to the same thing: you, as a mother, did whatever it took to take care of your child and you did it no matter what it took out of you emotionally, physically and mentally!

Noah - Quarantine Babies - Shreveport Newborn Photographer - Leslie Whitaker Photography

Covid-19 has changed many of the ways we live our life. I'd love to hear from you how it has directly affected your pregnancy. Do you feel like you've missed out on anything during your pregnancy with Noah that you'd hoped for? Do you recall any emotional differences related to the changes you faced towards the end of your pregnancy?

Covid-19 took away so much planned during my pregnancy. With so much changing with the hospital guidelines I was pushed to give in and be induced with my son to not risk having my husband missing out on his birth. I wasn’t allowed to have any family visit me during my stay and my photographer couldn’t be there as well. It was really emotional not having my mother with me as well to meet my son. She honestly didn’t get to meet him until he was 9 weeks old.

How was your hospital stay? Do you recall any differences in processes, how you were treated, etc. compared to your birth plan? How did those differences make you feel?

I honestly loved my hospital stay. I was treated so good by the staff. They helped me understand everything that was going on and I lucked out and got a family friend as my nurse. I couldn’t have done it without Brandi or my husband Michael.

Where was Noah born and at how many weeks gestation? How old was your baby on the date of his session?

Noah was born at Willis Knighton Bossier at 39 weeks. We did his newborns at 6-7 weeks!

What were you nervous about going into your session?

I was nervous about Noah not cooperating and taking him out the house.

What was your favorite part of your session experience?

Being pampered with hair and makeup while Leslie took care of Noah for his session.

How do you feel now that you have completed your session and received your images?

I am so happy! I have been so excited to have these to share with my family 💙

Would you recommend Leslie to other parents looking to document their newborn? Why would you recommend Leslie?

Of course! Leslie is the best. She’s the baby whisper and she knows what she is doing. She is very professional with her work and she is so kind.

There are so many beautiful styles of newborn photos. A simple white background with baby as the focus of the image, that speaks to me. I add color when the parents want me to, but no matter how hard I try.. I always go back to a clean image. Noah, he looks beautiful in a sweet cotton onesie, and all babies do too. Scroll down to check out my favorites from his newborn session. -Leslie
